In which Rebecca and Foteini say a fond farewell to 2024 and share a glimpse of what’s on the horizon for 2025:
2024 was a busy one! Between us, we led / contributed to four funding applications and delivered six presentations at public events, both here in Greece and abroad. We also attended lots of events, online and in-person, helping us to build our network and keep up to speed on what’s happening in our field.
Together with our wonderful production partners, we wrapped up two brand new performance projects. One of these received a Best Practice award from the ICOM (International Council of Museums) Committee for Education and Cultural Action, and both of them have been the subject of publications that share our findings with others who are interested in museology, history education, applied theatre and digital humanities. We were also happy to see the publication of the final outcomes of the digital heritage project: REVAthens, by Foteini Venieri and Andromache Gazi, professor of museology at Panteion University and scientific supervisor of the research project.
Finally, thanks to the Pastali organisation in Xanthi, we got a chance to dust off, fine-tune and deliver our beloved Introduction to Museum Theatre workshop – something we hope to develop further in the years ahead.
So, 2025 has just begun. We are already involved in three project proposals and are working on ideas for two new performance projects. Our main areas of focus will be:
- sector skills and professional development (i.e. sharing museum theatre theory and practice with more people)
- virtual environments and virtual humans (i.e. how museum theatre might further best practice in experience design, pedagogy and the use of AI)
- history education and museum learning (i.e. more research into the potential of theatre and performance practice in this space)
As ever, we welcome your comments and ideas! We will continue to use our social media spaces to share interesting projects, publications and opportunities that we come across. If you are working on or hear about something that would be of interest to our network, please let us know!
We leave you with this delightful photo of our happy, shining faces as we enter the new year with energy, enthusiasm and a few more grey hairs!
With love,
Foteini and Rebecca
