The results of Dr. Foteini Venieri’s research into the digital transition of museum theater as a tool for enriching history teaching in schools have just been published.

The publication – Renewing History Education to Uphold Democracy – is offered free of charge at the link below. It contains three other very interesting chapters on innovative methods of teaching history: https://histolab.coe.int/activities/histolab-fellowship

The research was carried out as part of the HISTOLAB project: a joint initiative of the European Union and the Council of Europe to promote innovative methods of teaching history. Foteini’s chapter gives an introduction to the uses of museum theatre in this area, including a look at some of the tools and methods that are available for the remote implementation of live museum learning.

She then presents a practical case study: “I Am Pilar!” This distance learning programme, exploring the life and film career of Katina Paxinou, was designed by Heterotopia Museum Theater (Rebecca Shelley and Foteini Venieri, together with Nikoletta Dimopoulou and Katerina Holi) in collaboration with the Cultural Foundation of the National Bank of Greece – MIET (Elia Vlachou and Sophia Peloponnissiou) and Museotek (Kelly Papakonstantinou, Vassilis Tsetsos and Athina Poursaitidou)

A big thank you to the amazing team at HISTOLAB and the Council of Europe for their continuous efforts to support innovative research and foster collaboration across borders.
