The 2024 FAEROP FESTIVAL, in Xanthi, consists of eight events held over different dates throughout the year, engaging local society in shared moments of reflection and discussion about heritage and identity. Each of the festival’s events, workshops and actions take a unique view on the interpretation of industrial and manufacturing heritage.
“Faerop” is a word from the past, taken from the vocabulary of tobacco workers: “we ate faerop” means (more or less) that we were fired / thrown out. But the term is used here, in the context of a local heritage festival, to emphasize the fact that any investigation of the past must somehow connect to the present if we are to avoid being fired, thrown out, from our own future.
Heterotopia is thrilled to be part of this 1st edition of the FAEROP Festival. Foteini and Rebecca will be in Xanthi on November 9th & 10th to host a workshop on museum theatre and to present Foteini’s book.
A huge thank you to Maria Petra for the invitation! We can’t wait to contribute to such an inspiring initiative!
